Epic Marriage Club

I love teaching!

There’s nothing greater than sharing a story, principle, or lesson with someone, watching them implement it, and witnessing it change their lives.

But relationships are messy and complicated.

Each couple comes with their own set of problems, struggles, and baggage.

Plus, much of the conventional “wisdom” is incredibly flawed. (For example, “Never go to bed angry.” Or, “Always put your partner’s needs before yours.”)

So, I set out to find a way to help couples in different stages of their relationships to learn, implement the lesson, and improve their marriage without getting overwhelmed, burned out, or bogged down in irrelevant content overload.

I started out by clearly defining the most common problems couples were complaining about.

Things like perpetual conflict, mismatched libido, communication issues, difficulty repairing trust, feelings of disconnection, and a loss of meaning and puropse.

Then, I researched the causes and solutions of each of these problems, and started watching for patterns.

It turns out many of these problems shared similar causes and occurred at roughly the same stages of marriage.

So, I started organizing all the knowledge and content I’d created.

And rather than record long lectures with detailed explanations about the psychology, physiology, and relational dynamics of common relationship problems (like most relationship experts have done), I simply recorded short 2-5 minute videos with activities that each person could do to create positive momentum for the marriage if they’re struggling with X, Y, or Z problem.

It turns out, if you can make working on your marriage feel less like “work,” people are more willing to do it!

And when they experience some success without having to slog through hours of boring psychobabble, they get excited about doing more.

Putting together the Epic Marriage Club required me to research the most powerful adult learning strategies.
I worked hard to make my content approachable, fun, and sticky.
And I’ve watched couples who participate get incredible results without having to pay thousands of dollars for therapy, or spend hundreds of hours reading books, listening to podcasts, or talking about their problems.

YouTube

YouTube is the second-largest search engine in the world. (You probably knew that.)

Video is the fastest-growing medium in the world.

And the content you create on YouTube – especially if it’s good – will only grow in value over time.

For the last year, I’ve been obsessing over YouTube strategy.

I’ve taken the Video Creators course by Tim Schmoyer.

I’ve studied Derral Eve’s book, “The YouTube Formula.”

I’ve fallen in love with the combination of strategy and creativity required to be successful on YouTube. And I’ve been honing my analytical, strategic, and creative skills to grow my presence.

Along the way, I’ve discovered some super handy tools and resources to make recording, editing, and publishing videos a piece of cake.

And within my first year of taking YouTube seriously, I’ve amassed over 20k viewer hours, thousands of subscribers, and developed a strategy that looks promising.

Utah Marriage Commission

I was appointed by former Utah Governor Herbert to serve on the Utah Marriage Commission.

The commission is comprised of representatives from most of the major universities in the state, along with legislators, religious organizations, and other relationship experts.

The Commission’s work is to help Utahans access the tools, resources, and help they need to create healthy, stable relationships.

During my time on the commission, I’ve been able to serve on their marketing and education committees, provide free relationship education for lower-income families funded by marriage licenses, and help transition the committee from a state-funded entity to a non-profit organization.

This experience has taught me a lot about teamwork, and the complexities of working within the buerocracy of government.
